The Relational Alchemist Begins Her Work

Something is turning. The extraordinary outer activation of this summer is beginning to move inward. At the center of that turning is a figure whose presence has been moving beneath the surface all along.

Venus. The Relational Alchemist.

We are inside Venus's retrograde shadow phase, running September 1 through December 16. Venus turns retrograde on October 3 in Scorpio and turns direct on November 14 in Libra. A companion Mercury retrograde runs October 24 to November 12. This is a significant relational and alchemical season. This week it begins in earnest.

Thursday, September 10 — Five significant movements. The gravitational center of the week.

Venus enters Scorpio. 

The Relational Alchemist crosses into her most intense terrain, not the planet of pleasant harmony but the initiator who insists that what is genuinely true in relationship matters more than what is comfortable.

Venus in Scorpio opposes Chiron retrograde in Taurus. 

The first of three Venus-Chiron oppositions unfolding through the end of November. The deepest relational wound territory, the body and self that has never quite believed it deserves genuine belonging and love. This first opposition is initial illumination. The wound is being named. Not yet metabolized. But seen.

And this wound is not only personal. Venus governs value and resource — what we deem worthy of care, what true cost we are willing to acknowledge. This opposition brings the Relational Alchemist into direct encounter with humanity's severed relationship with the Mother, the Earth as a living reciprocal presence rather than a resource to be extracted. The cost of that severance is a Venus wound as much as a Chiron wound. The divine feminine and her reckoning deepens in the weeks ahead.

Mercury enters Libra. 

As Venus goes deep into Scorpio's underworld, Mercury in Libra becomes the voice of the relational field at the surface, seeking honest conversation that honors both parties without bypassing what is difficult. Venus deepening. Mercury articulating. Two planets working different levels of the same territory.

Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini, in alignment with Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius. 

All three transpersonal planets simultaneously retrograde or stationing. All three great cycles present at Uranus's turning point. The revolutionary force in the mental field pausing for interior digestion through early February 2027. The outer activation going underground, not pausing the transformation but moving it into the slower deeper processing the acceleration has not always allowed.

New Moon at 18 degrees of Virgo sextiling Mars in Cancer. 

A grounding lunar seeding within all of this activation. What honest body-based attention do you want to bring to your relational life in the weeks ahead? Plant that intention today.

Saturday, September 12: Mercury trines Pluto and opposes Neptune.

Depth alongside dissolution. The capacity to speak into what is hidden in relationship, held in tension with the dissolving imaginal field. Both honest and spacious.

Sunday, September 13: Mercury trines Uranus in Gemini.

Mercury completes its two-day weaving with all three transpersonal cycles. The Communicator as bridge-maker, giving language to what the long cycles are asking of us in genuine human connection. Stay curious about what arrives in conversation this weekend.

I'm your host and guide, Sheila Belanger A little bit of orientation before we begin. We are moving into an extraordinary week with a lot of cycles, so bear with me. This is a longer podcast, and for folks that are new to astrology or new to the podcast, occasionally I will list astrological technical terms like degree measurements and such. If that doesn't make sense to you, just ignore them. Listen to the story. Let my words of activation support your own changes, and ignore any of the astro babble that does not make sense to you. Thank you. Now into the week. A phrase from this week's poem, "I fired it so all wood burn." Something is turning. Not suddenly, not dramatically, but genuinely and significantly We have all been moving through an extraordinary summer in the Northern Hemisphere. The great civilizational cycle simultaneously activated two eclipses, the nodal shift into Aquarius and Leo, Jupiter weaving through the full transpersonal field. The outer activation has been considerable Now the field is turning Inward, beginning that movement. And at the center of that turning is a figure we have not named for a while, and certainly not much this past season. Though her presence has been moving beneath the surface of the relational themes all along. Yes, Venus, the relational alchemist. We are just currently inside what's called Venus's retrograde shadow phase. This is the period between September 1st and December 16th, when the full retrograde arc of Venus is being seeded, lived, and integrated Venus will turn retrograde on October 3rd. This happens at eight degrees of Scorpio. She will turn forward in her movement on November 14th at 23 degrees of Libra. What that means from our perspective on the Earth is Venus, the planet, looks like it turns backwards in its cycle, and then goes forward again. Of course, that's not happening physically, but it's happening archetypally. And a companion Mercury retrograde cycle will run from October 24th to November 12th in the sign of Scorpio. Okay, time to take a breath. I'm gonna ask you to take a breath several times in this podcast. Let that just settle. Consider that this is a significant relational and alchemical season, and this week it begins in earnest. I have called Venus in her retrograde cycles the relational alchemist, because that is precisely what this archetype becomes when it goes inward. Not the planet of easy beauty and comfortable connection, that's one face of her, but the planet of deep relational truth, of what has been hidden beneath the surface of relationships and values, of what needs to die in how we love and value and spend our life so that something more genuine and alive can emerge. Stay with this supportive framing as we move through the weeks ahead So here are the key cycles for this week. Okay, take a breath. Thursday, September 10th, five significant cycles on one day. This day is the gravitational center of the week, and one of the more genuinely complex single days of this entire season. First, Venus enters Scorpio. The relational alchemist crosses into her most intense and transformative terrain Venus in Scorpio does not do surface. She moves into the depths of relational experience, into what is hidden, what is unspoken, what has been buried beneath the performed version of connection She seeks what is genuinely true in relationship and our values, even when, especially when that truth is uncomfortable. And we're talking both personal and collective here, my dear ones This is not Venus as the planet of pleasant harmony. This is Venus as the initiator As the one who insists that what is real between people matters more than what is convenient or comfortable As the alchemist who knows that genuine transformation in relationship requires a willingness to go where the light does not easily reach And she enters Scorpio moving immediately into opposition with Chiron in Taurus. Second big cycle, Venus in Scorpio opposes Chiron retrograde in Taurus The relational alchemist meets the wounded healer at the very threshold of Scorpio and Taurus This opposition touches the deepest relational wound territory available Venus in Scorpio seeking what is genuinely true in connection, meeting Chiron in Taurus, holding the wound and healing of embodied unworthiness, of not enoughness, of the body and yourself that has never quite believed it deserves genuine belonging and genuine love. Whoa, very tender territory. And this is the first of three Venus-Chiron opposition cycles that will unfold between now and the end of November as Venus moves through her retrograde cycle Each of these will bring a different quality of encounter with the wound and healing. This first one on this day is the initial illumination. The wound is being named and recognized, but possibly not yet metabolized, not yet healed, but it is seen You may notice this as a heightened sensitivity in the relational field today. A place where old pain around love, worthiness, belonging, values, surfaces with unexpected intensity. Where something that has felt resolved, reseal- reveals itself as still alive and asking for more honest attention This is not a sign that something is wrong. It is the relational alchemist in you beginning her deep work And this wound, of course, is not only personal, it is collective and civilizational Venus as an archetype governs not only relationship, but value and resources. What we deem worthy of care, what we are willing to pay the true cost of, what we treat as precious, and what we treat as expendable. Venus in Scorpio opposing Chiron in Taurus brings the relational alchemist into direct encounter with the wound of humanity's severed relationship with the mother, with the Earth herself as a living, feeling, reciprocal presence, rather than a resource to be extracted and discarded The cost of that severance, ecological, relational, spiritual Is a Venus wound as much as a Chiron wound? What has been deemed without value by extractive systems? What has been taken without reciprocity? What the feminine principle in all of us has absorbed and carried in silence Chiron in Taurus over its long transit is asking for the healing of that wound in your body and in the Earth. Venus in Scorpio opposing that healing work is the relational alchemist demanding that the true tri- true price be seen and acknowledged, that we stop pretending that extraction of any kind has been without cost This is the opening movement of a longer arc that will deepen through the retrograde season ahead. I'll go further into the territory of the divine feminine and her reckoning with us all in the weeks to come. But for now, let this first opposition support you to name what you recognize is here Let the wound be seen because that's where all genuine alchemy begins, in the acknowledgement and recognition and witnessing Okay, third cycle today. Mercury enters Libra. On this same day, the communicator moves into the sign of relationship, balance, and right relations Mercury in Libra brings a different quality to thought and speech, more attuned to the other, more seeking of genuine fairness and mutual understanding, more willing to hold multiple perspectives without collapsing into any single one As Venus goes deep into Scorpio's relational underworld, Mercury in Libra becomes the voice of the relational field at the surface, seeking the right words, the honest conversation, the communication that honors both parties without bypassing what is difficult You might track and watch this dynamic over the coming weeks. Venus deepening, Mercury articulating. The alchemist and the communicator in their respective signs working different levels of the same relational territory Fourth cycle today. Uranus turns retrograde at six degrees of Gemini in alignment with Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius And here this week opens into its largest dimension. Uranus, the awakener and disruptor in the sign of mind and communication, pauses and turns inward from our perspective. It will remain retrograde until early February of 2027 When Uranus stations looks like it stands and goes backwards in its orbit, there is often a quality of sudden clarity or disruption in the days immediately around this station point. What has been building in the mental and communicative field becomes briefly unusually visible, as if the phase itself illuminates what the motion had been carrying. Uranus is often likened archetypally to a lightning bolt. For those of you who know tarot, it can be seen as the Tower card, this sudden illumination and change. And Uranus stationing retrograde happens in direct alignment with Neptune in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius, all three personal planets now in some form of retrograde or station simultaneously. The awakener, the dissolver, and the transformer all turning inward together. This directly activates all three of the great cycles we've been tracking all summer, the Neptune-Pluto Gemini revolution in mind and shared reality The Uranus-Pluto Virgo unfinished work of power and identity. The Uranus-Neptune Capricorn dissolution of old collective structures. All these big cycles present the day of Uranus's turning point The outer activation of recent months is pausing. The revolutionary force in the mental field, the acceleration, the disruption, the radical new connections forming in how reality is constructed and shared, this is all turning inward for a season of interior digestion, so supportive in the northern hemisphere of autumn coming That, however, does not mean the collective transformation pauses. It means it goes underground for a time, into the interior, into your body, into the slower, deeper processing that the outer acceleration has not always allowed Breathe. Fifth big cycle of this day. New moon at eighteen degrees of Virgo, sextiling Mars in Cancer. And within all of this, a lunar seeding in the sign of honest integration and devoted attention. This new moon in Virgo is a grounding anchor on a day of considerable activation. Virgo plants seeds in the specific and the real, in what your body knows, in what genuine service looks like when it is lived rather than imagined, in the devoted attention that heals through careful, honest presence. And the new moon sextile Mars in Cancer connects the lunar seeding to the instinctual protective intelligence of the sign of Cancer. What is being planted this month is not abstract. It is rooted in your felt sense of what genuinely needs tending and protecting in the relational and ancestral field. Mars is an advocate archetype Going forward, taking action. What wants protecting? What wants tending? In the context of Venus entering Scorpio and the relational alchemist beginning her deep work, this new moon is asking you what honest, grounded, body-based attention do you want to bring to your relational life in the weeks ahead? Not what you wish were true. What you are genuinely willing to attend to with Virgo's honest, precise, and non-dramatizing care. You might wanna plant that intention today. It will be carried through the retrograde season ahead And then on Saturday, September 12th, Mercury in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius and opposes Neptune in Aries. The communicator now begins its remarkable two-day weaving through all three tr- with all three transpersonal planets. Mercury trine Pluto brings depth to relational communication, the capacity to speak into what is usually difficult to access, the hidden truth, the unspoken pattern, the thing beneath the thing. This cycle in Libra and Aquarius supports the kind of honest relational conversation that actually reorganizes rather than merely confirms This touches the structural level of how we relate rather than staying at the surface Mercury opposing Neptune the same day holds the tension between clear communication and the dissolving imaginal field. What wants to be said clearly may be harder to articulate than usual. The boundaries between your own perspective and the collective feeling field may be thinner than usual. If you can, hold both. The depth of Pluto and the openness of Neptune together are asking for communication that is both honest and spacious, neither forcing premature clarity nor losing itself in the blur. An aspiration And then on Sunday, September 13th, Mercury in Libra trines Uranus in Gemini. And here Mercury completes its weaving with all three trans- transpersonal planets in two days. Oof. The communicator in easy flow with the awakener. The relational intelligence of Libra connecting with the revolutionary mental field of Uranus in Gemini. Sudden insight about relationship, about what is genuinely new in how connection can form and what it can carry, arriving with a particular quality of Uranian breakthrough. Remember lightning bolts. Unexpected, clear, reorganizing, illuminating Mercury has now touched Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus across two days. Each of the three great cycles present in the communicative field through the relational lens of Libra... Whoa, Sheila, what a sentence. Okay, let's say it again. Each of the three great cycles that we've been tracking all summer present in the communicative field within the relational lens of Libra This is the communicator as bridge maker, weaving the vast transpersonal field into the relational and personal field where most people actually live their lives. Giving language, however partial, however provisional, to what the long cycles are asking of us, asking of us in the realm of genuine human connection With all of this, feel your feet grounded, touch the earth, breathe the air. Stay curious about what arrives in conversation this weekend. What is said or heard that feels like it belongs to something larger than the immediate exchange? Okay, my dear ones. This is another place. Take a breath, move your body, stretch I'm gonna recap for you larger frame of this whole week We are entering an interior season. Uranus retrograde, Neptune retrograde, Pluto retrograde. Venus in her shadow phase moving towards her early October retrograde, and a companion Mercury retrograde coming in late October inward The field that has been so outwardly activated this summer, electrically charged with the three great cycles, eclipses, nodal shift, the social planets in harmonious conversation, this is all now turning inward, asking you for a different quality of engagement, engagement. By no means less engaged, more deeply engaged, but inwardly rather than outwardly. The relational alchemist is beginning her work. The wounds of relationship, of worthiness, of what has been hidden beneath the surface, how we love and value, and our connection to the Earth, these are rising to be seen, metabolized, and transformed In the collective field, this interior turn does not pause the reckoning. The breakdown of dominator systems continue as we so recognize with such horror and compassion. The unfinished revolutions are still metabolizing. But the b- the mode shifts now from the outward disruption and activation of the summer to the interior alchemy of the autumn This is not a retreat. It's a deepening. I invite you to stay with it Here are three reflection questions to support you to take in the intensity of this week's cycle in your own way. First, as Venus enters Scorpio, and the relational alchemist begins her deep work, what truth in your relational life, something hidden beneath the surface of how things appear, is beginning to ask for honest acknowledgement? Second, the new moon in Virgo is planting seeds for the retrograde season ahead. What honest, grounded, body-based attention do you genuinely want to bring to your relational life in the coming weeks? And thirdly, as Uranus stations retrograde and the outer activation of summer turns inward, what has the summer's extraordinary activation been preparing you to integrate more deeply in your own interior life, in your relationships, in your understanding of the larger moment? Such an important mentor, ally, wise man. Not just an extraordinary poet, but an extraordinary farmer. One who knows deep intimacy and love for the earth. So with respect, I invoke this sacred elder's presence as this poem comes to all of us The Supplanting by Wendell Berry Where the road came, no longer bearing men, but briars, honeysuckle, buckbush, and wild grape. The house fell to ruin, and only the old wife's daffodils rose in spring among the wild vines to be domestic and to keep the faith, and her peonies drenched the tangle with white bloom For a while in the years of its wilderness, a wayfaring drunk slept clenched to the floor there in the cold nights And then I came and set fire to the remnants of house and shed and let time hurry in the flame.
